Nave Altar in St Laurence Church, Stroud |

In
May 2005, St. Laurence church was the target of an arson attack. A great
deal of damage was caused, including the destruction of the nave altar.
The replacement was designed and made by Matthew Tradgett of Cheltenham. The
front of the altar displays a representation of the gridiron on which
Laurence was martyred. For that part of his altar, Matthew was able to
rescue sufficient wood from the damaged altar. Hence some scorch marks
on the brand new altar! |

The picture on the right shows Reverend Canon Barry Coker (Vicar), The
Right Reverend John Went (Bishop of Tewkesbury) and Matthew Tradgett (designer
and maker) at the consecration of the new Nave Altar on St. Laurence's
Day (10 August) 2007. |
